Alsace, Altkirch, Secondary school JJ Henner (2002)
The sculpture are created by "carving" the form into the earth. This acts as a mould, which is then filled with a lightweight concrete reinforced with steel rods. The upper side remains flat and provides a surface for mounting the mosaics. The mosaic design is made of a mix of glazed ceramics, pebbles, and pieces of rock, glass and minerals.
The result is a sculpture with two faces. One covered with coloured and textured mosaics, the other one presenting a strong three dimensional form.
